Online Talk | General Public

Engineering and artisanship are features in the works of artist Haegue Yang in the exhibition Haegue Yang: The Cone of Concern. Made in collaboration with S.C. Vizcarra, the works, with a number of them commissioned for the exhibition, showcase Philippine materials and techniques developed and handed down to generations.  In this lecture, Rita Nazareno will discuss the process of production and collaboration between the S.C. Vizcarra workshop and Haegue Yang and her studio in the creation of commissioned works for the exhibition.

Rita Nazareno is the Creative Director of ZACARIAS 1925, a brand of hand-woven bags and home accessories that places a contemporary thrust in the traditional craft of hand-weaving, referencing contemporary art, architecture and cinema. ZACARIAS 1925 is exclusively hand-woven at the S.C.Vizcarra Workshop, founded in 1925 in Manila by Rita’s grandmother. S.C. Vizcarra has diversified into hand-woven bags and home accessories with its exquisite craftsmanship kept intact by Vicky Vizcarra Amalingan-Sales, the founder’s daughter.
