A visitor’s experience of an exhibition is due in large part to the work of the curator. In this Public Lecture, Pauline Yao shares her experiences as a curator at Arrow Factory, an independent art space in Beijing , and M+, the new museum for 20th and 21st century visual culture being built in Hong Kong.
Research, knowledge-building, interpretation of a collection or items in a collection are done by her as curator, along with presenting it to an audience in an exhibition or a public program. Zeroing in on M+, Ms Yao mentioned the need for forward thinking, asking some questions pertaining to particular challenges and opportunities that the museum may face, how these align with building awareness for art histories in the region, and the continued relevance of the institution to the public.
