[MCAD Public Lecture Series] Interesting and Important: Curatorial Practice as Artistic Practice

Date: 16 December 2024 @ 3:00pm
Venue: 12F Screening Room, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Design + Arts Campus, 950 P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila, 1004

On 16 December, Monday, curator, writer, editor and educator Anders Kreuger will present some of his larger-scale and longer- running projects, and also discuss his in-depth collaborations with artists from all over the world. The title of his talk, Interesting and Important: Curatorial Practice as Artistic Practice, refers to the two value judgments that can never be avoided in discussion about art or artists, writers or curators. If what they do and say is neither interesting nor important, why should we care to look, listen or read?

Anders Kreuger is the director of Kohta, an artist-initiated private kunsthalle in Helsinki, Finland. He has been active as an independent curator alongside his other positions. In 2007–10 he served as director of the Malmö Art Academy (Sweden), as Exhibitions Curator at Lunds konsthall (also in Sweden), and as a member of the Programme Team of the European Kunsthalle in Cologne, Germany. In 2010–19 he was Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA, Belgium) and a member of the Editorial Team of the London-based art journal Afterall. He is currently chairing the board for the Oslo-based online art journal Kunstkritikk.

The talk will be at the Screening Room in the 12th Floor of the Design+ Arts campus. Register here: https://forms.gle/kfHhgjFCWiRbScnKA for the talk.
