On 20 March 2015, Friday, MCAD will present a talk by Carina Evangelista discussing the Chuck Close Catalogue Raisonné as part of MCAD Platforms. Considered as a conceptual artist’s favorite figurative painter, Close’s monumental grid-based portraits are typically analyzed through the precepts of process-oriented Minimalism. Ms. Evangelista will give an overview of Close’s paintings from his little-known 25′-long Big Nude from 1967 to his most recently completed painting, Small Self-Portrait, along with the only known film made by Close as well as some daguerreotypes. Work-in-progress photographs, exhibition views, and excerpts from critical reviews will be shown.
Carina Evangelista is the Editor of the Chuck Close Catalogue Raisonné and Contributing Editor of Artifex Press, a digital publishing company dedicated to catalogues raisonnés. She has held curatorial positions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. As a regular writer on Philippine art, her publications include the monograph on Constancio Bernardo and a forthcoming one on Roberto Chabet. She is also the librettist of the musical Manhid, recently staged by Ballet Philippines at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Join us from 2-3 pm at the MCAD Multimedia Room. The talk is free and open to the public. For inquiries, please call 2305100 local 3897 or e-mail mcad@benilde.edu.ph
