MCAD Film Screenings: May 2018

Two for the Road is a two-part screening of selected films curated by artist Heman Chong which will run from April to May 2018.

In each of the films is a journey involving two individuals. As they traverse across a myriad of spaces and places, they grow into and around each other. These are films that talk about intimacy, isolation and the need for companions. The selection is born out of Chong’s interest in road movies and his personal love for travel and adventure. Each film tells a story through the landscape; forming an intricate relationship between the duo of protagonists and the social and political fabric that surrounds them.

Heman Chong is an artist whose work is located at the intersection between image, performance, situations and writing. He is behind MCAD Manila’s first project under MCAD Commons, The Library of Unread Books, with Renee Staal. Chong has recently produced a trilogy of solo exhibitions at Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, South London Gallery in London and Art Sonje Center in Seoul. His work has been shown at the 20th Sydney Biennale, 10th Gwangju Biennale, Asia Pacific Triennale 7, Performa 11, Manifesta 7, 2nd Singapore Biennale and has represented Singapore at the 50th Venice Biennale. He is currently working a novel entitled ‘The Book of Drafts’ which will be published by Polyparenthesis in 2019.
