MCAD Film Screamings: October 2018

The sacred bond between mothers and their children is fascinating in its innocence and complexity. Mothers have been in the heart of horror cinema for years and have been portrayed in several ways. On one side, we see them helpless in defending their children from monsters and demons and on the other, we find them harboring dark intentions, becoming monsters themselves.

For this year’s #MCADFilmScreamings, we present 4 films with themes of inadequacy in both mother and child and how this impacts their lives in a substantial way.

In Silent Hill, a mother fights for her child who goes missing in a nightmarish dimension filled with inhuman monsters. In Hereditary, a death in the family unravels terrifying secrets about their ancestry. In Goodnight Mommy, twin brothers grow suspicious of their mother after she returns bandaged from surgery. In Orphan, a devastated mother is haunted by the loss of her unborn baby and adopts a child whose behavior causes harm to the family.

The screenings will be held at the MCAD Multimedia room, Wednesdays and Fridays at 12nn and 3pm and Sundays at 12nn. For more information, email: mcad@benilde.edu.ph.
