Our July screenings explore the work of Greta Gerwig, which feature naturalistic dialogue and center on female experiences and relationships. Her directorial style and acting work follow realistic yet precise direction, showcasing an interesting trajectory since her beginnings in the mumblecore film movement. The women in Gerwig’s films are flawed and deeply human navigating equally flawed and nuanced human relations and situations amidst conflicting personal beliefs, careers, and societal expectations.
