Online Panel Discussion| General Public
Information plays a huge role in safety and risk reduction. For organizations dealing with sciences such as meteorology, communicating salient data on weather and climate crucial for the safety of the public employ unique and creative approaches that humanize or make data more relatable and actionable. By humanizing science, organizations make information emotionally, psychologically and spiritually relatable to individuals, compelling people to take action. It is this very principle that has guided actions such as the production of visuals and projects relating to the climate crisis as these visuals and projects help establish an ecological consciousness.
In this panel discussion, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will discuss its print and non-print materials for information, education and public outreach, Mr. Renato Redentor Constantino will speak about the AGAM publication and Alas ng Bayan project of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, and the Oscar M. Lopez (OML) Center will do the same for its translation projects that go beyond science into user- based communications and co-production. Lastly, Atty. Tony La Vina of the Manila Observatory will address climate justice.
PAGASA
PAGASA, one of the attached agencies of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) under its Scientific and Technical Services Institutes, is mandated to “provide protection against natural calamities and utilize scientific knowledge as an effective instrument to insure the safety, well being and economic security of all the people, and for the promotion of national progress.” (Section 2, Statement of Policy, Presidential Decree No. 78; December 1972 as amended by Presidential Decree No. 1149; August 1977)

Manila Observatory
The Manila Observatory is a Jesuit scientific research institution with research work in the fields of atmospheric and earth science in the Philippines and the Southeast Asian region. It advocates a science-based approach to sustainable development and poverty reduction.
Inspired by Ignatian spirituality, the Manila Observatory is committed to a scientific culture in its regional and global context through research excellence in environmental and pre-disaster science particularly in the areas of atmospheric studies, solid earth dynamics, instrumentation, and applied geomatics.
The Manila Observatory therefore envisions itself as doing science that effectively enhances resilience through evidence-based scientific information.
