An interdisciplinary collaboration of NTU CCA Singapore and MCAD Manila commissioned by Goethe-Institute Singapore and Goethe-Institute Manila
Inclusive dates:
26 October – 12 November 2018 [Manila]
12 November – 25 November 2018 [Singapore]
OVERVIEW
The research residency, Acts of Life, delves deeper into the digital transformation of the everyday, particularly in the ways we engage with the habitual, spiritual, material, and technological worlds. With it, the radical transformation of spheres of knowledge takes place, affecting the critical reading of our environments. How does the intertwined idea of nature and culture play out differently in new urban settings? What are the impacts on the (post-) human perception of co-shaping/-constructing nature as culture, and vice versa? What is the future, and how does it relate to the “nature” of the historical as well as non-digital histories?
We invite creative and interdisciplinary artists, scholars, and individuals working in related fields (e.g. art, design, architecture, urbanism, humanities, digital sciences, etc.) to explore these questions of planetary inhabiting and worlding (forming of worlds) over the course of short-term residencies in Manila and Singapore. Selected participants will work in groups on their respective fields of research throughout the residencies and presentation period, with guidance from curatorial supervisors.
The selection committee and artistic team will consist of:
Ute Meta Bauer, Founding Director, NTU CCA Singapore and Professor, School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University Singapore
Joselina Cruz, Director and Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD), Manila
Patrick Flores, PhD, Professor, University of the Philippines, Department of Art, and Curator of the Vargas Museum, Manila
Sophie Goltz, Deputy Director Research and Academic Programmes, NTU CCA Singapore and Assistant Professor, School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University Singapore
Khim Ong, Deputy Director Curatorial Programmes, NTU CCA Singapore
